SENIORS

Contrary to rumours, there was no earthquake in the middle of Cavan last Saturday night. However, at about 8.15pm the Senior side came crashing back to earth when county champions, Cavan Gaels, handed out a severe 0-21 to 0-7 beating to the previously unbeaten Stars. For pictures from the match, please click here.

A level opening quarter saw the sides exchange scores as they went point for point to be level at 0-4 each after 15 mins, with Mark McKeown to the fore for the Stars.  However, the Seanie Johnston show was about to get under way and five points from him in 10 mins gave the Gaels daylight, and when Martin Dunne joined in all of a sudden we trailed 0-11 to 0-4 at halftime.

When the same two combined for two early 2nd half scores the game was well and truly up.  Substitutes rang out from both sides as the game progressed and late scores from Philly Smith & Daryl Martin saw us tag on a few more to the scoreboard.  However at the end it as a very comprehensive defeat and one which we can have no complaints from.

After that defeat, we will all be very happy to get back to O’Raghallaigh Park when we are due to host Castlerahan on Sunday @ 7pm.  However, it now appears that if Cavan win on Saturday this game will not go ahead, but it will if we lose (even though the Ulster draw has been known since last year and our next match is the last weekend in June either way!)  I have giving up trying to understand….

JUNIORS

The Juniors match last week was postponed following the tragic death of Simon Sexton last week, and our thoughts are with his family.  This weekend sees us host Maghera on Sunday @ 2pm

UNDERAGE

After a superb victory over St. Joseph’s in the semi-final by 2-9 to 1-10 the 16s faced Cavan Gaels in the final last Sunday evening.  At halftime they trailed 0-5 to 0-2 and looked under pressure, however they raised their game in the second half, but just could not register on the scoreboard and fell just short by 0-7 to 1-2.

A very disappointing defeat for all involved but a great achievement in getting their and hopefully they can go one better in the championship later in the Summer.  For pictures from the final, please click here.

The 13s continue training and will start their championship with a trip to Ramor Utd on Thursday 17th June.

The 12s season finished in Breffni Park on the Bank Holiday morning.  22 players headed off to Cavan early in the morning looking forward to their big day out.

Kingscourt 1 were paired with Cavan Gaels 1, Gowna & Mullahoran and gained two victories before losing out by a solitary point to Gowna which deprived themselves of a semi-final place.

Kingscourt 2 were paired with Cavan Gaels 2, Shannon Gaels & Ballinagh and despite some great performances also missed out on a semi final spot.

The U-10’s made their annual trip up North on the Bank Holiday Saturday for the participation in the Newry Blitz.  With over 40 teams involved it’s a great event for all involved.

This year saw us grouped with St. Peters (Armagh), Na Piarsigh (Antrim) & Mitchells (Down).  Three competitive games saw us gain one victory and two defeats.  Sadly it was not enough to progress to the knockout stages. However it was a great day for everyone and 12/17 players will be eligble again next year. For pictures from the day, please click here.

Next up for them is a trip to Knockbride tonight and then they host Navan O’Mahony’s on Saturday.

The U-14’s girls face a trip to Templeport tonight for their final league outing.  A win will see them through to the semi-finals which would be a super achievement in their first year at this grade.

FANTASY FOOTBALL

The club’s Ulster Championship Fantasy Football competition continues with Joe Mac regaining the lead in what is looking like a titantic battle between himself and Pat.  For full listings after Week 3, please click here.

GOOD LUCK

Best of Luck to everyone connected to the club who are sitting exams at present.  Also, best of luck to Senior Captain, Alan Clarke, who will start in the half back line for Cavan in this weekend’s Ulster Senior Championship Quarter Final against Fermanagh.

LOTTO

The lotto continues to rise with no winner again next week and next week sees it hit €9,800.  This weeks saw 4 Match 3’s win €50 each.  The winning numbers were 03, 04, 06 & 17 (Bonus 01).
