ULSTER COLLEGES ALL-STAR

Congratulations to Barry Reilly who claimed his second Ulster Colleges All-Star just before Christmas.  Barry is one of only two people to retain their positions from the previous year’s All Star side.  This time he has been selected in the half forwards, compared to the full forward line last year.

A super achievement in its own right, but even more so bearing in mind Barry would not represent one of the larger colleges in Ulster.  The fact that the High School have only ever won six colleges All-Stars in their history, and Barry has two of them, says it all really.

JUVENILE HURLING

A new six week nursery programme for hurling for children born between 2003-06 (ages 4-7) will take place in Jan/Feb 2010. This will be run jointly between Kingscourt Stars, Cavan Hurling Board, Cavan Coaching and Games and Ulster Council. What we need is adults to train as coaches for this age group!

No previous hurling experience is required to coach this group. Just a willingness to learn and have fun while both you and the children learn new skills. The FUNdamentals course delivered by Mickey Glover is a fun way to learn the game. Should there be sufficient interest from adults then a mini blitz league will take place with other clubs in the region that have committed to this programme, Castlerahan, Cuchullains and Bailieborough.

All of these events will take place indoors out of the cold!!! Anyone wishing to get involved then let Pat Faulkner, James Brown or Willie Gaughan know and we will get the ball rolling. We would also hope to have an U-8 team in action in the Spring, again, against local opposition.
