Elphin’s defence tightened up after this and they gradually clawed themselves back into the game and trailed by 1-4 to 0-3 at half time. Elphin came out strong in the second half and reduced the deficit to two points and Shannon Gaels put three between the teams again. The crucial point of the game came midway through the half when Martin McCaffrey was pulled Elphin got a penalty which Gerry Cregg converted. Shannon Gaels retook the lead with a pointed free but a point from Shane Beirne levelled matters and a last gasp kick from a tight angle by Frankie Cregg gave Elphin the lead for the first time and they held out for the win. The club would like to thank St Faithleachs GAA Club for hosting the U-14s in its annual 7-a-side blitz in Ballyleague. The club ran a very successful and well organised event and much praise should go to them. The U-14s had three group games against Roscommon Gaels, Longford Slashers and Oran A. They lost to Oran and won the other two games and managed to get a place in the semifinal where they played Killoe of Longford. They were leading this game by 2 pts with second remaining when Killoe grabbed a late goal to take victory.
