LUCAN SARSFIELDS’ CLUB NOTES MONDAY March 24th 2014

Membership is now due for 2014.  We encourage all members to renew as soon as possible by following the link on our website.  We particularly extend an invite to Parents and Guardians of our Juvenile members to consider one of our family options.  All players up to U21 are now included in the family options.

Many thanks to all the Teams who sent in match reports this weekend.  Full details can be found on our website www.lucansarsfields.ie over 650 players in action last weekend across all 4 codes from age 7 to 40+!

Our U10 hurlers played 3 games in AGP against Castleknock winning 2 out of the 3 games.  On a bitterly cold and wet morning, the Sars scored some great points from play and frees across all 3 teams even from the narrowest of angles.  In Tymon Park our 2 team group played St. Judes and won both games.  Asleep for the first half, a strong second half showing allowed Sars pull away to record 2 victories.

Well done to our Senior Footballers who made it 3 wins from 3 with a 1 point win over Kilmacud. Our Intermediates had another impressive showing against O’Dwyers whilst our Jun A team also came away with a victory, following a strong last 10 minutes, to post a 7 point win over Robert Emmets.  Our Jun B Team was unlucky to go down to a strong Cuala forward line by a margin of 3 points.

The Minor Hurlers had a great 1 point win over Ballinteer, following a close contest.  The on line followers were left hanging following a battery failure 2 minutes from the end!

There were mixed results for our CCC2 Football Teams.  The U13Bs snatched a late goal to earn a well deserved 1 point win over local rivals St Brigids.  The U13As had a comprehensive victory over an under strength Clontarf side, while both U14 teams lost out to St Maurs and Ballinteer.  The U16As had an impressive home victory over St Vincents on a score line of 3-9 to 3-6.  The U16Bs followed suit with a strong finish against Naomh Olafs registering a 5 point win.  The U15As were bitterly disappointed with a narrow 1 point loss against St Sylvesters.

Well done to all the boys who have been selected for this weeks CCC1 Hurling All Stars team. CCC1 covers the age groups from U-8 to U-12. U-8, Ryan Feighery (St. Mochuas Celbridge), Daire Collis (St. Thomas'), Michael Lynch (St. Marys). U-9, Ronan Munnelly (Glebe Montessori Celbridge), Adam Banim ( Griffenn Glen Educate Together), Daragh O'Toole ( St. Thomas'). U-10, Jamie Smith (Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada), Conor Sheary, (Gaelscoil Naomh Padraig), Gareth Kennedy (Scoil Mhuire). U-11, Aidan Sheary (Gaelscoil Naomh Padraig), Danny McCarthy (Divine Mercy), Conor Cooper (Scoil Mhuire). U-12 Daragh Murphy (Divine Mercy), Shane Murtagh (St. Marys) Sean O'Leary (Lucan Educate Together).

The U13LF had an excellent win over Kilmacud in Div 1.  It finished Kilmacud 2:08 Lucan 3:10. Malteasers went to Aisling for a fantastic performance and to Laura for her sheer scoring prowess.

On Sunday the same age group prevailed again over Crokes in Deerpark, this time in camogie.

Our goal keeper and backs defended tenaciously, our midfield dominated play throughout the game and together with the forwards gave a wonderful display of score taking.

The girls went in at half time ahead on a score 4-04 to 1-01. They built on their lead in the second half to finish the match on a score 9- 10 to 1-03.

Team: Faye O’ Reilly, Aoife Byrne, Heather Kenny, Ciara McDonagh, Chloe O’ Connor, Hannah Brady, Caoimhe Morris, Aoife Mahon, Siofra Byrne, Laura Lawless, Laura Quinn, Carla Delmar, Aoife Coffey, Ciara Crosbie, Aisling Gray, Maria Crowley, Willow Byrne, Laura Boland, Rachel Feighery.

25 Card Drive every Friday night at 9pm in the Clubhouse Bar – all welcome. €5 entry with €50 1st prize.

A new members card system has been installed in the bar on a trial basis.  The system will offer benefits for Club members and will initially be trialed on a 3 month basis.  Please support this initiative.

Many thanks to all the Golfers who played in the Par 3 golf event on Saturday supporting Joe Whyte’s Strictly Come Dancing Fundraising and in particular to Newcastle Golf Centre. Despite the inclement weather, most players completed the round without getting a drenching! Third pace went to Mick Roche, Dave Whittle and Michael Malone, in close second we had Damien O’Brien, Conor Bresnan and Alan Curtis whilst first place went to Mick O’Hara, Liam Carton and Joe Whyte!

The Lastmanstanding Premier League Prediction competition is down to the last 24! This is being run by the Club as a fund-raiser, but also as a fun event for members and their friends who are fans.  We are well into it at this stage, with 6 rounds of matches already completed.  (Entry for this season is obviously closed!  But, never fear, we will run the competition again at the start of the 2014/15 Premier League).  From an entry of 235, 24 still remain – last week-end, the 6 teams selected by the 24 all won, so they are clearly honing their knowledge and skills.  The vast majority have already selected the top 5 teams in the Premier League Table, so with just 7 full rounds of matches left, excitement and tension are growing as contestants try to find rich pickings further down the table.

Set Dancing classes every Wednesday @ 8.30pm

Strictly come dancing comes to lucan. Expect glamour, fancy footwork and lots of laughs at the Lucan Sarsfields fundraising event in Westmanstown on Sat May 3rd. The troupe of volunteer dancers will show off their skills on the dance floor expertly choreographed by Debbie Kiernan. Tickets will go on sale shortly and demand will be high so watch this space

Our nurseries continue every Saturday from 1.30pm at the Clubhouse.  New players are always welcome and registration is just €10 for both Hurling and Football.  This is your chance to participate in a training session led by Dublin Hurling Captain Johnny McCaffrey.  Each week over 150 boys and girls practice their skills and improve their overall physical well being in a safe and controlled environment on our purpose built all weather facility.  Check out our website for more details.
