Silverbridge Juvenile Badminton Club

The badminton season has got off to a start with 3 teams entered in the Louth Leagues. One Under 11 and 2 Under 13. On Thursday last an Under 13 and an Under 11 team travelled to Ardee for the first game of the season. Declan Reel and Adam McQuillan were narrowly beaten by the Ardee pair 30-29 in a brilliant match. Aideen McShane and new comer Emma Begley got as far as 22 but were beaten by a strong Ardee pair. Declan and Aideen were beaten 30-23 in what was a very exciting match with some fantastic rally’s. Adam and Emma had the only win of the night when they won 30-26 in another exciting match. The Under 11’s had great matches also with David Garvey and new comer Mark Rowland being beaten 30-21 and David and Aoife McCreesh narrowly beaten 30-28. As we were short a player Ardee kindly gave us a sub, Aine, but she and Mark were beaten 30-17 and Aolfe and Aine beaten 30-12. Good scoring as it is difficult to play competively with a complete stranger.

On Saturday all 3 teams travelled to Dundalk Sports Centre. One Under 13 team won 3-1 with wins by Declan Reel and Niall Hughes 30-26, Aideen McShane and Kate McEvoy 30-20, Declan and Kate 30-19 and Niall and Aideen were beaten 30-23. Several of the matches were neck and neck a lot of the way and were very exciting to watch. The second Under 13 team were beaten 4-0, Ronan Reel and Darren Cunningham, a new comer, put up a good fight but were beaten 30-20, Colleen McCreesh and sister Kelly Ann were also beaten 30-20, Ronan and Kelly Ann got as far as 23 in their mixed match and Darren and Colleen reached 18. With the exception of Colleen this is the first year this team played in the Under 13 age group and have done very well. The Under 11 team also played with David Garvey and Kyle Rowland (another newcomer) narrowly being beaten 30-27 in a very close match, David and Aoife McCreesh won their mixed match 30-15. Erin Murphy and Aoife Mccreesh and Erin and Kyle played challenge matches as the Dundalk team were short 2 members. David is the only veteran on this team. The end result Silverbridge 3, DSC 1.

The times for the Saturday session has changed to 3pm to 4.15 and is open to all ages.

There will be no Saturday session on Saturday 29th as there is a Juveinile badminton tournament on in the Resource Centre. Under 11’s will run from 10am to 1.30pm, Under 13’s from 2pm to 5.30pm and Under 15’s from 6pm. Players are coming from various clubs in the Louth and Newry & Mourne area so it should be a good display of badminton. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone to see juvenile badminton and spectators are very welcome.
