Club Notes For 5th October 2008

November 8, 2018

JUNIOR:
An understrength Junior team lost to Kilglass in the Tansey cup by 1-13 to 0-7. A very poor first half saw them trail at half time by 1-8 to 0-1 with Michael Callery getting Elphin’s only point of the half. They improved slightly in the second half but it was not enough to get them close to a good Kilglass team. This result means that Elphin must win their last game of the league against Boyle to be certain of a semi final place. As we are currently the title holders all players are asked to make the effort to get to this game.

 MINOR:

The Minors led the way in terms of results this weekend with a 2pt victory over St Croans in the championship Semi-final in Tarmonbarry on Saturday.
Elphin made a great start with 3-2 in the first fifteen minutes and were playing good football. St Croans started to pull back into the game gradually and got a goal just before half time. The second half was a very scrappy affair with the ball around the middle of the field for a lot of it. St Croans got a goal late in the half to bring them within a point of Elphin, but Elphin did enough to hold on for the deserved victory. An in depth match report will be available on the club website.
They will now play St Aidans in the final this weekend, see fixtures for details.

UNDER 16:

The u-16s ended their season on a low with a six point loss to St Michaels on Sunday in the league.

UNDER 12:

Our u12 team lost to Kilglass in the Div. 3 Championship Final in Hyde Park on Saturday. The game was played in terrible weather conditions with wind and rain spoiling the game for both sides. Elphin played with the wind in the first half and swapped 2 early points with Kilglass before Kilglass got their first goal. Elphin got three further points to leave the score 1-3 to 5 at half time. Kilglass started better in the second half and with the wind in their backs scored 1-2 before Elphin scored their first point. Elphin played much better in the last quarter and despite their best efforts couldn`t turn their possession into scores. The final score was 2-5 to 0-7.
Team: L. Monaghan, C. O` Connor, C. Beirne, N. Murphy, C. Fox, D. Shanagher, C. Beirne (0-3 2f), G. Higgins, D. Kennedy (0-1), A. Murray (0-1), N. Lenehan (0-1), D. Kelly, J. O` Beirne (0-1) Sub: K. Killoran for N. Murphy.
