The Downs Ladies Football

Under 16 A Championship Final
The Downs 3:8 Rochfordbridge 2:7
On Saturday in Shandonagh we met Rochfordbridge in the under 16 final. In the opening minutes both sides had opened their account with a point each, but it was Rochfordbridge who pushed on and led by 1:4 to 0:1 at the end of the first quarter. The Downs realising the game was getting away from them out scored Rochfordbridge 2:4 to 0:1. to go in at halftime 2:5 to 1:5 ahead. Rochfordbridge started the second half as they did the first and quickly went ahead 2:6 to 2:5. With ten minutes remaining the scores were level 2:7 to 2:7.  The Downs dominated the remaining ten minutes scoring 1:1 unanswered to win by four points. Well done to the girls who showed their character  by coming from behind twice and their discipline in holding the lead in the final minutes and also to Bernie and Jody who coached the team. Thanks to all who came along to support the team and to Cathriona for preparing the refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards.  Team: Amy Dagg, Aishling Egerton, Fiona Dignam, Sinead Nolan, Amy Staunton, Rosin Scally, Laura Wynne, Beth McGuire, Ellen Tate, Mary Lynam, Leanne Duncan, Clara Thornton, Niamh Rowan, Laura Smullen, Niamh Duncan.
