U16 league. The Downs 3.06 St. Marys 0.06.
On Tuesday 5th we travelled to rochfordbridge to play St Marys in the league. We started very well and played quick ball into our forward line. We had several good chances but were unlucky with our finishing on a few occasions. Coming towards half time we were in need of scores as we had wind advantage. Benny Groome start a move out on the wing and 3 quick passes later Mark McCormick crashed the ball to the roof of the net. Next attack we again passed quickly and Jake Cahill rifled to the net again. Half time we led 2.05 to 0.02 but facing into the wind we were going to be under pressure. To our credit we played excellent in the second half and when Luke Loughlin put Ian Martin through for our 3rd goal we never looked in danger. Shane Nugent made 1 great save from close range and her also swept up really well behind our fullbacks. Pat Duncan was outstanding at 2 while the Deans Moran and Daly were rock solid. Half backs and midfield worked hard under pressure and a strong half forward line of Luke, Jake and Benny worked hard to hold pressure off in the second half. The inside line although small in statue Derek Conroy, Ian Martin and Mark Mc Cormick played great football by being first out to the ball. James Murtagh was good when introduced was almost got a 4th goal. Shane Conroy and Ethan O Donnell played well also. This was a good win and our discipline under some severe pressure was great. We are improving every day out and if we keep doing the dimple things right we should be a match for all teams. Thanks to parents for driving.
