Under 12’s
The under 12’s led by last week’s captainKevin OSullivan had to give way to an impressive Athlone side in Kevin MolloyPark on September 12th last. This evening the lads away away to St Loman’sstarting at 630pm, all players to be in Lakepoint Parkat 610pm. The final league fixture is scheduled for 23rd September which is ahome tie vs Mullingar Shamrocks.

Wetravelled to Kinnegad on Friday evening for the final, Killucan go to a dreamstart scoring a goal directly from the throw in and added  a point from the kick out. The Downs werenext to raise a flag but Killucan playing with the advantage of the breezedominated the scoring for the remainder of the half with The Downs adding agoal before halftime  leaving a halftimescore 1:1 to 1:8. Junior Championship Final                The Downs3:15         Athlone 1:5
The Downs secured the junior championship with their  performance of the season which totallydominated the final and emerge impressive champions.
The Downswere on the attack from the start  andquickly got into a large lead which they built on for the rest of the half.Athlone raised their performance in the second half  but The Downs responded and finished the halfstrongly and gained the Junior Championship. Captain Sarah McGuire accepted thecup from County Chairperson Geraldine Giles to loud cheers from The Downssupporters.
 This win is the result of hard work throughoutthe year and the excellent underage structure in the club. Well done to the allthe players  and Kevin Staunton and MickWynne.
