Junior FC                    The Downs 2-11         St Marys 3-8.
The Downs who fielded a mostly youthful team in this game started brightly and had 1 – 3 to 0 -1 on the scoreboard after 8 minutes with Dean Daly, Adam Price (goal), and Kevin Bell to the fore in our forward line. St Marys upped their game and added two points to leave just one score between the teams after twenty minutes. The award of a controversial goal by the referee tied up matters on twenty two minutes. The Downs finished the half strongly and added two further points to lead on a score line of 1-6 to 1-4 at the break.
The Downs started the second half where they left off and Adam Price added his second goal after five minutes which was quickly added to with another point from play to leave The Downs ahead by a margin of six points with ten minutes gone. St Marys to their credit rallied and added two points. The Downs were guilty of some poor finishing at this stage of the game and were punished in the twentieth minute with a well taken goal after a short kick out was intercepted. The Downs responded well and added two further points from play to go three up again. Both teams then exchanged points before St Marys got their third gaol after a defensive lapse by The Downs. With the game now entering the final minutes St Marys pressed for the winner and looked to have the game won when they landed a point with a minute to go. The Downs held their nerve and worked the ball up field to land an equaliser on the stroke of full time. Well done to all the lads for a spirited performance. In a game that we looked, at stages we would win easily, proved otherwise and to their credit the team battled hard when it most counted.
