Club Strategic Plan
The club are starting to prepare a 5 year Strategic Plan for 2012 / 2016. We welcome contributions from players, parents and supporters on any aspect of the club’s activities. The initial focus is on our underage structure so all feedback from previous activities or ideas on how we can enhance our youth section going forward can be emailed to secretary.thedowns.westmeath@gaa.ie or discussed with any club official.

First Aid
We are planning to provide a First-Aid person  to cover our underage coaching sessions which recommence on March 24th. This will be arranged on a rota basis so we are looking for 6 volunteers to do 1 hour each on a Friday @ 630pm every 6 weeks or so. Training will be provided if required. Please contact Trudie @ 0879890121 to get involved or if you would like to avail of the next first aid training course. Defibrillator training will also be arranged shortly – anybody interested should contact Trudie or any club official. A reminder that a Defibrillator is located at the clubhouse at the external wall of the entrance porch.

Scor
We hosted the county final on Saturday night, unfortunately our figure dance, novelty act and set dance, though giving  excellent performances missed out on the honours. Jenny McNamee in the solo singing took the county honours in a very competitive competition, best  wishes to Jenny next Sunday in the Leinster semi-final in The Downs. We would like to thank everyone who represented the club in Scor and those who helped prepare the groups.

Senior Team
Senior Team newsDiv 4 league v St JosephsWe had a good victory at home on Saturday in the div 4 league. Fielding a reasonably young team we played very well and finished with a good win. St Josephs played well too and there was just 4 points in it at half time. We pulled away in the second half with the aid of 2 goals. The discipline was very good and direct football paid off. Most of our lads trained hard during the week also so it was very pleasing to get the result. Good effort with room to improve. Team K Mc Guire, T Egan, D Lynam, V Connelly, C Thompson, C Carley, C Seery, N Molloy, PJ Maguire, S Loughlin, A Price, S Carroll, N Folan, B Fitzpatrick, N Doherty. Subs  P Shanley, L Loughlin, D Mc Dermott, L Farrell, D Daly. K Gavin.Div 6 v MilltownpassWe came up short against Milltownpass on Sunday morning in a very competitive game. Many of our lads played Saturday and were sluggish to get going. Milltown played more direct and we conceded 8 points from close in frees. This aspect of our game was disappointing as we have worked hard to avoid this. Nevertheless it was a reasonably good effort from our third team and we should get some better results in the div with full complement available. Thanks to all the lads for making the effort.  Team K Mc Guire, D Mc Dermott, V Connelly, L Farrell, C Thompson, B Flynn, C Seery, B Fitzpatrick, PJ Maguire, S Carroll, F Thompson, N Doherty, D Daly, L Donohue, K Gavin. Subs P Cochrane, D Egerton.Senior team played St Brigids Offaly in Tubber tournament last Wednesday and lost by a single point. Fielding 7 under 21’s we gave a good account of ourselves and while disappointed to lose we were delighted with the effort. Training continues and full attendance is needed. Some of the newcomers are breaking into the team and other are making a great effort also.
