ACL DIV 1 The Downs 0-14  Athlone 1-13
On Thursday evening last we travelled to Athlone for our final game of the season in this competition. On a fine evening for football both teams served up an entertaining hour’s football. The Downs started well and led by two points to one after nine minutes. Both teams exchanged the lead for much of the remainder of the half, however the only goal of the game was scored by Athlone with five minutes remaining in the first half and gave them a half time lead of two points on a score line of 1 -7 to 0-8.
The Downs came out fighting in the second half and played some excellent football and were very unlucky not to have scored three goals, with the woodwork coming to Athlone’s rescue twice. The team battled hard but were unable to bridge the half time gap of two points.
Team: Ciaran McCormack, Brendan Flynn, Niall Murray, Cian Carthy, Conor Carley, Niall Nolan, Vincent Conneely, Noel Molloy, Mark Dalton, PJ Maguire John Smyth, Barry Conroy, Luke Loughlin, Shane Carroll, Luke Folan. Subs Used: Declan Lynam, Steven Cleary, Kevin Smullen, Keith Shanley.

Under 12’s
The lads played a very entertaining and closely contested challenge versus neighbours Coralstown Kinnegad in Molloy Park on Saturday morning last. Led by this week’s captain Eanna Burke, we produced some good spells of football and did just enough to overcome the challenge of the visitors. Team: Ryan Mannering, David Smyth, Oisin Dowdall, Nathan Lynott, Paul
Flynn, Trevor Martin, Luke McGuire, Jonathan Lynam, Jack Carroll, Matthew Cunningham, David Markey, Evan Harte, Liam Moran, Eanna Burke, Jake Quinn, Adam Smith.
Thanks to Martin for taking the whistle at very short notice and thanks to Coralstown  Kinnegad for the game.

The Downs Ladies Football

Under 16’s Result: The Downs 3-4, St. Loman’s 2-6.

On Tuesday 24th July the girls travelled to Lakepoint Park to take on St. Loman’s on a very wet and windy evening. The home side opened the game with a point in the first few minutes. The Downs responded with a point by Leanne Duncan. The Downs trailed at half time 2-2 to 2 points. The Downs upped the pace in the second half and a brillant goal by Katie Heffernan brought the Downs back into the game.Great defending by corner back Ursula Carley ensured the ball was cleared to Leanne Duncan who found Emma Murtagh who had no hesiatation in putting the ball into the net. A quick kick out by St. Loman’s was intercepted by corner forward Niamh Staunton who once again shook the Lomans net. Our strong full back line denied St. Loman’s crucial scores in the second half. In what was a great team performance The Downs were deserving winners with a fulltime score 3-4 to 2-6. Team: Orla Gavin, Ursula Carley, Amy Dagg, Aoife Carley, Rebecca  Kelly, Amber Gilgan, Sinéad Nolan, Leanne Duncan, Roisín Rose, Niamh Staunton, Natalie Ward, Keelin Rowan, Kate Gallagher, Emma Murtagh, Sinead Gallagher, Katie Heffernan, Aoife Kearney.
