Junior Championship Final    The Downs 3:6           Clann Gael 4:9
On Saturday last in Rochfordbridge we took on last years beaten finalists Clann Gael in the final. Having met twice this year in championship and league and with  a win each the final  was expected to be a competitive affaire. Clann Gael were first on the score board with 1:1 , both sides traded scores until a fine goal for The Downs levelled the scores. However Clann Gael finished the half the stronger and scored two goals in the  final minutes to hold a halftime lead 4:1 to 1:4. On the resumption The Downs pressed for scores but failed to convert and it was Clann Gael who got the important opening points. The Downs rallied again and putting in a tremendous effort out scored their opponents for the second half ensuring a nail biting finish as Clann  Gael defended bravely to prevent The Downs getting the vital goals.  Team: Sarah McGuire, Carmel Colman, Emma Murtagh, Fiona Dignam, Roisin Scally, Gillian Ferguson, Jessica Crowley, Beth McGuire, Claire Crowley, Mary Lynam, Leanne Duncan, Ellen Tate, Amy Staunton, Aoife Rowan, Bernie Corroon. Subs: Niamh Moriority, Sinead Murray, Laura Smullen, Emma Duncan, Sinead Collins, Laura Kelly,Paula Duffy, Georgina Crowley, Louise Kearney, Aishling Egerton, Caoimhe Duncan, Sinead Collins. Well done to Jody and the girls for putting in a great effort all year, on the evidence of this performance and the quality of our under age teams the future is bright.
