Club text message service
We are continuing with our free text message service via TEAMER 51687 which we use to notify members regarding various club activities. If you wish to avail of this service, please text your name and number to Marc at 087 8362297. These messages are free to receive and a reply is not required. We currently have over 300 subscribers but would like to enhance it further to ensure all our supporters are aware of our activities and are notified when venues are changed or games cancelled etc

Under 10s
The Downs U10s played in the final round of the North Westmeath League away to Milltownpass on August 30th.  The Downs after being down by 7 points to 5 points at haltime turned in a very good 2nd half performance to come out on top by 15 points to 10 points.  This result ensured that the Downs were unbeaten in the League section of this year’s North Westmeath League and sees them top Group 1.  On the night the Downs were represented by the Black Team which included Mark Connelly, Owen Rathigan, Jack Walsh, Max Cassidy, Liam Murtagh, Gary Cleary, Nathan Lynott, Oisin Raleigh, Liam Moran, Donal Doherty, Adam Connelly, Cian Flaherty, Alan Mooney, Evan Harte, Cormac Mullen, Adam Smith, Gary Wynne, and Kevin O’Sullivan.
 
Having topped Group 1 in the North Westmeath League the Downs U10s were paired against Group 2 winners Kinnegad in the final on Saturday last.  The Down Amber team ran into a 3 point lead by half time having played with the breeze.  Kinnegad came back to draw mid way thru the 2nd half but the Downs pulled away to win by 4 points.  In the other game the Downs Black Team were down to Kinnegad by 7 points with 5 minutes to go in the first half but finished the half strongly to cut the lead to 4 points.  Playing with the breeze the Downs were well on top in the 2 nd half and ran out eventual winners by 5 points.  Congratulations to all of the players for winning the final and remaining unbeaten throughout the League.  The Downs were represented by Mark Connelly, Owen Rathigan, Ben Harte, Max Cassidy, Oisin Raleigh, Nathan Lynott, Anthony Moran, Liam Moran, Cian Flaherty, Adam Connelly, Donal Doherty, Evan Harte, Liam Murtagh, Alan Mooney, Jake Quinn, Cormac Mullen, Eoghan Egerton, Cian McCourt, Mark Nuegent, Adam Smith, Cathal Dagg, Oisin Loughlin, Gary Cleary, Gary Wynne, Kevin O’Sullivan, David Smyth, Tom Tuite, Owen Murray, Shane Murtagh, Paul McCool, Evan Scally, and Sean Power.
A word of thanks to the Rochfortbridge club for hosting the final.  Also special thanks to Caitriona & Ger Brennan for hosting the U10 team back in the Downs club house after the game.
The Downs U10s will be hosting the annual Pat Walsh Cup on September 17th, starting at 3 pm.
 
Underage Training
Training from under 6 to under 12  Friday evenings  from 6.30 to 7.30 .New players welcome .  You can register at any training evening 
 
Club Shop
The club shop is located upstairs in the clubhouse and will be open during Friday evening training for the season. Just arrived are youth kit bags priced at 20 euros. Also in stock are ‘Squareball’ tee-shirts in a unique club design and ideal for the summer. Adult sizes at 20 euros are in stock and kids sizes at 15 euros can be ordered. A reminder that crested football gloves are available at cost price.

The Downs Ladies Football
Underage training for  under 6 to under 12 on Friday evenings 6.30 to 7.30 on Under 14s train on Mondays at 7. Under 16s, 18s and juniors train on Tuesday and Friday at 7.30. New members are welcome to come along for any age

Under 12s
Our under 12 travelled to Moate to take on the home side in the championship semi-final despite a tremendous performance especially in the last ten minutes, we came up narrowly short. Well done to all the girls who put a great effort in during the year and thanks to all the parents and supporters who travelled to the game.
 
Minor
Our minor team continued their winning ways with a home win over Ballycomoyle on Wednesday evening, finishing the league part of the competition and qualify for a semi-final place.
 
Fundraising
The Ladies Football are collecting bags of clothes as a fundraiser, so you can now de- clutter and help the club raise funds. Bags are available from any team coach or committee member or in The Shop.

We are having a cake sale on Friday 16th during underage training.  All baking greatly appreciated
