Clubs team up for Good Friday Walk

November 8, 2018

Barna GAA Club and Barna/Furbo Hurling Club are teaming up Good Friday, March 29, to raise funds for charity and the two clubs.
A sponsored walk between Barna pitch and the pitches at Na Forbacha, in aid of the football club, hurling club and Cancer Care West will take place on Good Friday, March 29.
According to the organisers the distance is about three miles and the walkers will be taking the ‘back roads’ through the bog at Poilini rather than the main road. The walk will commence at 4pm and sponsorship cards are available from club officers.
The walk is part of the GAA’s social initiative, which was spearheaded by former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese a couple of years back to tackle social isolation and social exclusion suffered by older men in particular who had ‘fallen through the cracks’ and lost touch with the community.
Meanwhile, the two clubs have also combined to sell the County Board’s annual draw tickets and will use the money to help pay for the two clubs’ levy. Tickets are on sale this week.
