Colmcille GFC Notes

November 8, 2018

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Pearse Daly. Pearse dedicated his life to the betterment of the North Longford community through his work as an agricultural inspector and in later years by his work as North Longford correspondent for the local news papers. He also dedicated much of his life to his love of the G.A.A. He was heavily involved in the founding of the Dromard club when he lived in the parish. He then became involved in our own club in the 1950s and fulfilled many of the administrative roles. He has been a county board delegate for our club since the beginning of his involvement with Colmcille. Indeed Pearse has been a county board delegate in Longford and Dublin for close to seventy successive years. The influence and presence of this remarkable man will be greatly missed. We extend our sympathy to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
Our championship campaign continues on Sunday next when we take on Emmet Og in the quarter finals. The game will be played in Pearse Park at 7.15pm.
As part of Operation Transformation a sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick will take place on 21st of August. There will be a bus leaving form the cross at 8am on the morning of the climb. Anyone interested in participating should contact John Flanagan as soon as possible on 0868366013.
There was no winner of the July 31st lotto draw. The numbers drawn were: 21, 24, 21 and 30. Lucky dip winners were: Damien Brady, Mary Denneny, Pearse Daly and John Kiernan. Next week’s jackpot stands at a very substantial €9,900. Envelops are available from all the usual outlets and yearly or half yearly subscriptions may be purchased by contacting John Reilly.
Finally we wish a speedy recovery to our chairperson, Marie O’Reilly Keenan. We also would like to congratulate and wish newlyweds Paul Kennedy and Breda Nannery all the best for the future.
