Colmcille GFC Notes

November 8, 2018

They thought the day would never come when they started training at the beginning of the year. Thousands of miles have been clocked up, punctures galore have been fixed, seemingly impossible hills have been conquered, litres of water have been drank, countless sandwiches and bananas have been consumed and several sore muscles have been lamented but all the training and hardships finally paid off as the Colmcille cyclists achieved their goal and cycled from Croke Park to Colmcille. It was certainly no mean feat to take on this task and we are delighted to say that everyone was accounted for when the gang rolled into Aughnacliffe on Saturday evening. From the beginning the event was approached very enthusiastically and it grew into something very big very quickly with around 40 people taking part. The success of this event is down to the hard work of the organisers Joe Mulligan, Ali McGauran and Paul Kennedy. Their efforts in mapping out a route, organising transport for bikes and bikers alike, ensuring there was plenty of food and drinks available along the road, obtaining sponsorship and ensuring the safety of all who took part must be commended. We must thank all those who took part in the cycle. We must also thank all those who transported bikes to Dublin, prepared food for the route, those who drove along with the cyclists as safety vehicles and dished out the grub, those who provided first aid and the crew that provided a fantastic meal for the gang when they got home. We must also thank the sponsors and anyone who supported the event in any way. Finally we congratulate all the cyclists who took part and conquered the road from Croker to Colmcille.
The Senior B Championship continues on Friday 1st July against Longford Slashers at 8.15pm in McGee Park.
The Minor club are hosting a car bingo function on Friday 8th July. This will no doubt be a good night of craic and a great opportunity to win some nice prizes. The following day, Saturday 9th, the rescheduled 12K Lake View Walk will take place in aid of the Colmcille Branch of St. Christopher’s services and Colmcille GFC. The Sunday morning walks are continuing in preparation for the big day. Starting times for the car bingo and the walk have yet to be confirmed.
There was no winner of the June 19th lotto draw. Numbers drawn were 16, 23, 28 and 29. Lucky dip winners were: Kevin Reilly, Adrian Lennon, J.P. Reilly and John Gill. Nellie Gormley was the seller.
The Lotto jackpot is now €9,300 which is a fantastic amount of money. Be sure to be in with a chance of winning big and supporting your local club by filling in an envelope. Envelopes are available from all local outlets and from any executive member. Yearly lotto subscriptions are available from John Flanagan or Frances Kennedy.

Finally, congratulations to Declan, Noel and the county senior team on their great win over Cavan in the qualifiers.
