Colmcille GFC Notes

November 8, 2018

Pride of place this week must go to the exceptional ladies team who landed their first piece of silverware of the year in winning the Leinster Ladies Club Junior League. They travelled to Portarlington to take on Crossabeg from Wexford and it’s fair to say that they blew the opposition away, scoring a hugely impressive 21 point win (4-13 to 1-01). Following the great success of last year it is no mean feat to continue the winning ways again this year and congratulations must go to the team and their mentors for the dedication shown to win the Leinster league. The scenes of jubilation as joint captains Patricia Reilly and Caroline Doyle received their prize on behalf of the team were fantastic and fireworks lit the skies around the Cross for the rapturous homecoming. Congratulations must also go to Michelle Farrell on winning the Player of the Match award. Long may the success continue.
On Saturday last, the seniors took on Rathcline in Div. 1B. The team was kitted out in new jerseys, togs and socks. The lads put in a good performance to win on an impressive score line of 3-17 to 1-05. Unfortunately the result was over shadowed somewhat by a very nasty injury sustained by Brian Brady who was having a good game at wing back. We wish Brian a speedy recovery. Thanks must go to the Rathcline medical staff for their assistance. Team v. Rathcline: M. Kiernan, P. Kennedy, N. Farrell, O. McGivney, B. Brady, F. Kavanagh, C. Brady, J.P. Reilly, D. Reilly, L. McKeon, N. Brady, P. McKeon, B. McKeon, D. Farrell and B. Mc Cabe. Subs: D. Mulligan, C. Kiernan, J. Mulligan and J. McGee.
The reserve league 1 team will be in action against Abbeylara on Friday 3rd June at 8.15pm In McGee Park.
As mentioned before, the senior team took to the field against Rathcline in an entirely new kit. On Friday last, team captain Francis Kavanagh was presented with a set of new jerseys which were kindly sponsored by Dermot Murphy from the Mortgage Shop. Francis was also presented with new togs and socks which are generously sponsored by Norman Hall from Hall Transport.
On June 11th, after the first round championship match against Ballymahon, Mr& Mrs competition will take place in Murtagh’s Lounge. This night is in aid of the Operation Transformation Fund and promises to be a night of fun, games, great craic and a few very special guests. Don’t miss out!
