Colmcille GFC Notes

November 8, 2018

The club held a hugely successful Lá na gClub last weekend, hosting a series of events over the two days. Firstly a table quiz was held in the Glenview on Saturday night. Kieran Tonra was quiz master and as always he set a challenging but very enjoyable quiz. We would like to express our gratitude to Kieran for his time and effort. Congratulations to Joe Mulligan and his cosmopolitan Smear team, who won the quiz, scoring 85 out of a possible 100. It seems that Smear now stretches up through Cleenrath and into Aughacordrinan. All joking aside, congratulations to Joe and Geraldine Mulligan, Karl Bleakley and Gerry and Annette Farley. We wish to thank the team who generously donated their winnings back to the club. We would also like to thank Gerry and Cáit Mc Cabe for the use of their venue and all those who sponsored prizes for the raffle.

The events continued on Sunday in Fr. Mc Gee Park. At 1pm Fr. O’ Dowd celebrated Mass for the club and this was followed by a presentation to our Junior Scor team, Ross and Karl Mc Nerney and Vinnie Hourican who themselves and the club proud with their novelty act. A presentation was also made to Jackie Flanagan on behalf of the Ladies club in recognition of his tireless work for football at all levels in the parish.

These events were followed by football blitzes, including a match in which Luigi and Mickey Mouse were in goals. SpongeBob also made a very popular appearance. There was also a barbeque and general merriment all afternoon. Thankfully the weather was perfect.

Sincere thanks to Fr. O’ Dowd for celebrating Mass, Paul, Bob and Marie for running the barbeque, Teresa and Deirdre for running the shop, Mark Caddam for the use of his lorry as a stage  and to all those who helped to make the day such a success.

Congratulations to the organising committee of Margaret Murtagh, Colm Ginty, Marie Keenan, Sean Mc Gauran, Patricia Hourican and P.J. Mulligan for a superb weekend of fun and entertainment.

The new distribution method for the lotto envelopes continues to be hugely successful. We once again ask for your continued support by purchasing and envelope and dropping it into the local shops and pubs. The lotto is a vital source of funds for the club. These funds enable us to put in place the excellent facilities on display in Fr. Mc Gee Park during Lá na gClub. Your help is a vital factor in the running of the club. We thank you in advance for your support.

Our Division 3 team had a good win over Emmett Og on Saturday 8th May winning on a score line of 2-13 to 2-8. Well done to the team and trainers.
