Edenderry……3-10
Rhode………..0-02

Edenderry’s under 10 footballers retained their Offaly Community Games title with an emphatic 3-10 to 0-02 win over Rhode in Rhode last Wednesday.

In the first half Edenderry played with the aid of the slight breeze, and they opened the scoring when Cian Farrell sent over a point from a free. Cian soon followed that score with a great goal, when he finished to the corner of the Rhode net after a good solo run from midfield. Edenderry added another point, again from Cian Farrell when he converted a free which was awarded for a Rhode defender pulling the jersey of Ciaran Breen. Despite Jack Brady seeing very little of the ball in goals for Edenderry, he was still very alert to make a fine save to deny Rhode a goal with their first attack. Edenderry grabbed the next three points, all from Cian Farrell frees after fouls on Stephen Pender, Aaron Mangan and Cathal Farrell. Ryan Glynn then got on the scoresheet, when he sent a powerful shot just over the bar, after a great pass from Ciaran Breen. The last score before halftime went to Edenderry’s centre forward Cathal Farrell, when he sent a good point over the bar.

Halftime, Edenderry 1-07 Rhode 0-00.

At the break Craig Farrell was introduced at full-forward in place of Ryan O’Neill. The first score of the second half was a point for Rhode. But from the Edenderry kickout Aaron Mangan won possession, and gave a great pass to Ryan Glynn who finished expertly to the Rhode net. Edenderry then made a double substitution with Conor Dempsey and Seanie Coffey replacing Bobby Reynolds and Seamus O’Grady respectively. Cian Farrell then added another point from a free before Jack Costello came into the action for Stephen Pender. Rhode were then awarded a penalty, but Jack Brady got down brilliantly to his right hand side to make a fantastic save. From the resulting clearance Rhode won possession and sent the ball over the bar for their second point. Edenderry grabbed the next point as Cian Farrell sent over a lovely point, before Jack Staunton came in for Edenderry. The Reds finished out the game with a goal and a point. The goal came from Conor Dempsey as he fisted the ball to the net after a good pass from Jack Costello, while the last point came from Edenderry’s impressive midfielder Cian Farrell.

Edenderry will now go on to represent Offaly in the Leinster Community Games Competition for the second year in a row. While everyone played very well, Edenderry’s standout performers were Jack Brady, Adao Daffe, Gary Gorman, Ciaran Lawlor, Ciaran Nolan, Ryan Glynn, Cathal Farrell and man-of-the-match Cian Farrell. The club wishes the lads the best of luck in the Leinster Competition.
