Sean Connor today unveiled three new first team players at a press conference held in the Radisson Hotel in Sligo.
Speaking to sligorovers.com in advance the manger said that ‘pre season training going very well. We currently have 16 full-time training including 4 trialists and on top of that, 5 part-timers. The training has been of good quality and tempo, and I’m more than pleased with the attitude and application at this stage.’
In relation to the new signings, Connor gave the following assessment.
‘Keith Foy is from Dublin. He’s played for Nottingham Forest before returning to Eircom League football with St Pats and Monaghan. He’s a very very skilful left back with tonnes of talent. He’s very determined to reach his massive potential and based on what I’ve seen so far in pre-season, I’m confident that returning to a full-time set-up we’ll get the best out of Keith. ‘
‘Adam Hughes has been my main target all pre-season. He’s a 23 year old Australian, who was brought to my attention by Gerry Cassidy. Gerry’s been instrumental in ensuring he signed for Rovers despite a lot of interest from League One/Two and conference clubs. He’s played for Doncaster this season and scored in the Carling Cup against Wrexham. Alex is a combative midfielder with a strong work ethic, good engine and a happy knack of getting on the end of things – something we lacked last season from midfield.
‘Gavin Peers is a 20 year old right back who was at Blackburn before going to Mansfield last season where he played over 20 games and he comes highly recommended from Steve Bruce (Peers played alongside Bruce’s son Alex). He’s technically a very good player and a very solid defender – has been capped at under age and is looking to break into Ireland U21 squad.’
‘Both players have signed 2 year contracts. ‘
‘My shopping hasn’t finished and I intend to bring in one more striker and one more midfielder / striker,’ the manager concluded.
