Intermediate:

Our Intermediate side drew with St. Pats in the opening round of the league last Sunday afternoon in Nace O’Dowd Park on a score line of 0.9 to 1.06. Leading by a point at the interval, the home team grafted well against the breeze in the second period to go three points clear. However, the visitors scrambled a goal near the finish to earn a share of the spoils. This may seem like points dropped for the hosts but the overall display of endeavour and work rate is encouraging at this stage of the season.

Team: F Brennan, S Kivlehan, S Marren(0 1), W Kivlehan, C Connolly, B Coleman, J McGowan, B Kivlehan(0 1), M Conlon, O Lee, S O’Brien(0 1), M Connolly, D Doherty(0 1), K Finan(0 4), J Connolly. Subs: P McHugh(0 1) for J Connolly, C Gorman for S Marren(inj), S Coyle for M Connolly, B Finnegan, K Duffy.

Best of luck to team custodian Francis Brennan who takes over the role of team captain for the season. Many thanks also to all those who volunteered their time in preparing the pitch for last weekends games. We play St. Michaels in round two of the league next weekend in Ballintogher.

Minor:

Hard luck to our minor team who lost out by a point to St. Farnans in round two of the league last Sunday morning. Final score 1.08 to 1.07.

Underage Presentation:

The club had a very successful medal presentation ceremony in St Nathy’s Hall Mullinabreena last Saturday evening. Last year our Under 14 team defeated Curry in the final of the B League. The medals were presented by former county star and current selector Paul Taylor from Eastern Harps.

Club Chairman Brendan Kivlehan welcomed the team, managers Christy Davey and Leo Coleman, parents of the team and members of the Intermediate team to the event. Paul Taylor paid tribute to the effort put in by the team and their mentors and also their parents. He commended the efforts by clubman Barry Kivlehan with Sligo and outlined that Barry was an ideal role model for the current crop of underage footballers.

The chairman paid tribute to the volunteers who helped organise the event and thanked those who helped with the excellent catering, stewarding and all those involved with the event. There is a selection of photographs from the event in the gallery section of the club website www.coolaneymullinabreena.com

Full Panel: Owen McDonagh, Seamus Wimms, Brendan Doddy, Pearse Gorman, Colin Marren, Stephen Barrett, Darren Coleman, Criostoir Davey, Stephen Connolly, Barry Kennedy, Niall O’Dowd, Edward Burke, Michael Mulvey, Christopher Lee, Gavin Feely, Kieran Gannon, Keelan Gannon and Cathal Finan.

Lotto:

The first Club Lotto draw for 2009 was held on the night of the presentation last Saturday. The numbers drawn were 12, 13, 14 and 16. There was no jackpot winner and the jackpot now stands at €6400 for the February draw. Congratulations to Mary and Gabriel Barrett, Ballinvalley, Lavagh who win the €200 member’s prize for January. Once again the club sincerely thanks all club members who have purchased Lotto Membership tickets for this year and issue a reminder that it is still possible to join. Contact any club officer for details.

Underage Coaching:

Coaching for the U-8, U-10 and U-12 groups begins this Saturday February 28th from 10am to 11am at Nace O’Dowd Park. We encourage any parents within the club to come along with children of this age as we continue to promote active participation for all. This year the club has a number of extra trained volunteers available for these coaching sessions that promise to be most enjoyable for all involved.

Coaching Conference:

The Connaught GAA coaching conference will take place in St. Brigid’s GAA Club, Kiltoom, Co Roscommon on Saturday March 7th. Anyone interested in taking part should contact any club officer as soon as possible.

County Medal:

Well done to Conor Gorman who was a panel member of the victorious Sligo team to win the Fr. Manning Cup last year. The team were presented with their medals at a function in the Sligo Park last week.
