Lá na gClub:
Sunday May 10th marks the day that clubs across the country will
commemorate the 125th anniversary of the GAA. ‘Lá na gClub’ as it is called,
is designated a fixtures free day for every club. Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA
has plans to celebrate the occasion in our own style. The celebration will
begin at 2pm with a re-dedication/blessing of Nace O’Dowd Park by Fr.
Peter Gallagher. A ‘Festival of Football’ will follow, showcasing all of our
underage players from U-8 to U-18 in a series of exhibition games. This is
an opportunity for all players and coaches to exhibit their skills in an
uncompetitive and fun environment. A novelty senior match will take place after
the underage games. Past players are invited to join current senior
players in two combined teams for this ‘not to be missed’ clash! Some legendary
comebacks are promised!!!! Volunteers will be required to assist in marshalling
and helping out on the day and can do so by contacting any club
officer.
A fun day of bouncy castles, face painting, theme balloons and other novelty
events will form part of the occasion and it hoped that all parents of the
underage players in the club will support this great occasion. Indeed all
supporters of the club from
Coolaney, Mullinabreena and beyond are invited to come along for this
family fun day. Check our website www.coolaneymullinabreena.com for further
details. Start time is 2pm and all players participating are requested to be at
the park at this time.
Intermediate:
Our
Intermediate side travelled to Dromard to play St. Pats in round nine of the
league last Saturday evening. Played in very difficult conditions, the home
team won out on a score line of 1.09 to 0.8. With the advantage of the strong
breeze in the opening period, Coolaney/Mullinabreena were the dominant team and
went 7 points to 2 ahead. However a goal for St. Pats following an error gave
them renewed hope at the interval. The second half was a scrappy, error strewn
affair in which the home team pushed ahead in the final ten minutes with the
aid of the elements. Fianl score: St.Pats 1.09, Coolaney/Mullinabreena 0.8.
Despite the result, this game represents considerable progress for our lads and
with a notable improvement on recent outings. There is no game fixed for next
weekend.
