1984 re-union Dinner Dance:

Almost 250 guests attended the function last Sunday night to honour the 1984 Junior Champions and Officials. Club members past and present from near and far gathered at the Clarion Hotel for a most enjoyable evening. MC for the evening John Marren conducted the proceedings with consummate style. He introduced guest speakers, Club Chairman, Brendan Kivlehan and County Board Chairman John Murphy. Both speakers acknowledge the great achievement of the ’84 team and remarked on how so many are still involved with the Club today.

John Murphy presented the team and officials with a framed newspaper report of the final and also a DVD of a game courtesy of Noel Johnston.

The team and officials of 1984 honoured on the night were: Pat Coleman, Eamon Gorman, John Brennan, Tom O’Donnell, Micheal Gorman, Kevin Johnston(C), Frank Gilmartin, Benny Wilkinson, James McDonagh, Tom McBrien (Dermot Coleman), Gerry Connolly, Tony Moran, Francie Gallagher, Tom Colleary (Aidan Colleary), Gerry Mullen. Subs: Michael McDonagh, Michael Coleman(RIP) (Teasy Coleman), Aidan Walsh (Patricia Kennedy), Christy Davey, Frank Gormley, Stephen Gormley, John Gorman, John Mullen (David Mullen), Michael Foy and Padraic Hamilton. The management team consisted of Tom Keane, James Finan and Michael Moore. Benny Wilkinson was club chairman and Walter Kivlehan was club secretary.

Micheal Coleman (RIP) was remembered especially on the night. His mother, Teasy, accepted the presentation posthumously to a moving standing applause from all in attendance. Captain Kevin Johnston, home from Boston for the event, spoke on behalf of the ’84 team and regailed the crowd with his humerous delivery. A presentation also took place to Eugene Henry and Frank Gilmartin who stood down from their respective committee positions earlier this year.

The evening continued on in style with Sligo band Take Four providing the entertainment while Harry and Shane McGowan provided the interval act to a great reaction from all. The dance floor was scarcely empty for the night as everyone partook in a very lively function.

The club wish to collectively thank everyone who assisted in any way to the successful event.
