Minor:

Our minor team capped off a superb year for underage football in the club by capturing the minor B title virtue of a seven point defeat of St. Pats at Markievicz Park last Saturday afternoon. A reasonably strong breeze blew across the park as both teams started nervously, clocking up two wides apiece. Criostoir Davey opened our account with a pointed free after ten minutes. St. Pats responded with a point before Conor Gorman hit a brace of points from play. C/M had the better of exchanges at this stage and went six points to two ahead with fine efforts from Declan McCormack, Eoghan O’Dowd and Sean Gorman. C/M twice went close to netting but St. Pats struck for a point followed by a well worked goal just before the interval. S Gorman hit another point to leave C/M 0.7 to 1.03 ahead at the break.

C/M had the ideal restart with C Davey bravely punching to the net after three minutes from a rebound. A second goal followed within minutes when a speculative shot from Conlon was flicked to the net by C Gorman. St. Pats responded with a free and McCormack was unlucky with a great shot off the post. St. Pats never really gained any momentum in this half and C/M added further points through Raymond Connolly and two from S Gorman. Pats did go close to goaling but C Davey hit the final point of the day to secure a memorable victory for C/M. Final score C/M 2.11 St. Pats 1.07. Overall this was a much merited win for C/M who played some delightful combination football with all but one score coming from play. Credit must go to both sides for a sporting spectacle devoid of any cynicism.

M Healy in goal was solid and made an exceptional save near the finish. Corner backs A Coleman and the classy C O’Dowd were comfortable all through. E Kivlehan at c/b had an outstanding hour foraging and driving forward at every opportunity. Wing backs Kieran Doddy and James Conlon worked tirelessly. Midfielders Raymond Connolly and Sean Davey had a great tussle with their opposite duo and eventually gained the upper hand. All of the forwards performed well on the day with Eoghan O’Dowd and Declan McCormack both hitting a point each. Wing Forward Sean Gorman was in inspiring form striking four splendid points. The two inside men Conor Gorman and Criostoir Davey tormented their markers with both notching 1.02 each. Subs Conor McCormack and Gerard Lynch played their part in retaining possession to see out the victory. Joint captains Enda Kivlehan and Sean Gorman both accepted the cup from Coiste na nóg secretary Martin Seery. Once again, well done to managers Brendan Kivlehan and Eamon Gorman and the full panel on this famous triumph.
