Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Notes September 28th ‘09

All roads lead to Markievicz Park next Sunday October 4th for the County Minor B Championship Final. The match, fixed for 1.45pm, sees Coolaney/Mullinabreena paired with Dromard side St. Pats. We are under no illusions about the task at hand having already lost out to the same opponents at the group stages. However, the team under performed on that occasion and hopefully they can exact some revenge on final day. We are urging all club supporters to come out in force to support the team. Best of luck to all involved. The club last clinched this title in 2002. It’s also a great honour for the club to perform as part of the biggest event in the county’s club calendar as the curtain raiser to the Sligo Senior Final.

1984 Team Re-Union Dinner Dance:

Planning is now at an advanced stage for the upcoming dinner dance to mark the silver jubilee of the club’s junior double winning side of 1984. The presentation night will take place on Sunday, October 25th in the Clarion Hotel Sligo. There has been a great response to date with many already committed to travelling long distances for the event. Tickets are now available for the event, priced at €50 and bookings can be made by contacting John Marren, Ollie Lee, Brendan Kivlehan and Shane O’Brien. All are welcome to what promises to be a great celebration and a great night’s entertainment.

Dinner Dance Programme:

The club is currently producing a special souvenir programme for the upcoming ’84 team re-union Dinner Dance. Anyone who wishes to sponsor an advert in the programme should contact Ollie Lee or John Marren. Adverts are priced at €50. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Underage Blitz and Presentation:

A mini Blitz and presentation will take place for all the children who took part in this year’s Saturday morning coaching sessions on Saturday October 3rd at 10am at Nace O’Dowd Park. The u-8, u-10 and u-12 children will be presented with special GAA 125 medals to mark this year’s celebrations. Tremendous volunteer work has been carried out all year by our many club coaches who give of their valuable time to the club. Up to fifty boys and girls have attended the sessions. We hope the parents will come along on the presentation morning to experience the fun and show their appreciation.

Hurling Medal:

Well done to minor player Michael Healy who claimed a county minor hurling medal with Tubbercurry recently. Michael follows in the footsteps of former club player Noel Johnston who captured numerous hurling titles with Tubbercurry in a distinguished playing career.

Our U-12 team competed in a Blitz series last Saturday and performed admirably against strong opposition from Mayo and Galway. Well done to all involved.
