Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAANotes July 18th 2011
Intermediate:
Ourintermediate side defeated St. Farnans last Saturday evening at Enniscronewater world! The atrocious weather conditions militated against a footballspectacle but C/M adapted better and deservedly won out on a score line of 1.07to 0.6.
The openinghalf was an uneventful, error strewn affair as both sides struggled with theconditions. Points from Brendan Coleman, Sean Gorman and a superb free fromKieran Finan left the scores three apiece at the break.
St.Farnansresumed brighter and went five to three ahead within ten minutes. From thispoint on C/M picked up a gear and dominated proceedings. Brendan Coleman hit apoint followed by a Farnans score to leave it six to four. O’Brien hit a goodpoint and substitute Criostoir Davey hit the game’s crucial score when hegoaled with ten minutes remaining. Further points from O’Brien and a superbeffort from full back Sean Gorman sealed this justified victory.
Overall C/Mwon this fixture on the grounds of superior work rate and fitness along withquality score taking considering the conditions. With two group games remainingthe team is progressing well but there is still a long way to go in this newmarathon championship format. Next up is Owenmore Gaels in two weeks time.
