Minor A Champions:

September26th 2010 is now a date firmly etched in the memories of allconnected with our club as our magnificent minor team defeated St. Farnans tobe crowned minor A champions. Attempting to bridge a gap of fifty three yearsat this level, C/M started the game very nervously but true to their form allseason produced the goods when necessary and deservedly won out on a score lineof 1.10 to 0.10.

With theaid of a slight breeze, St. Farnans settled quickest and went four points ahead, three coming from frees. James Henry kicked our first score after fifteenminutes. The opening period was a tense, edgy affair but crucially just beforethe break Darren Coleman notched two fine points to leave it five to three athalf time.

The crowdwere hardly settled after the interval when Criostoir Davey finished off a fineflowing move up the field with a rising effort into the top corner of the net.We missed a couple of chances just after this but Farnans showed greatcharacter to hit five points in a strong ten minute spell to leave it 0.10 to1.03. However, as has been their trademark all year, C/M produced the qualitywhen it counted. Four points from play from Declan McCormack, Eoghan O’Dowd,Raymond Connolly and James Henry, the latter a monster forty yard effort, brought the scores level with ten minutes to go. We did have a lucky escapewhen Farnans hit the crossbar with a speculative shot but finished verystrongly with two frees from Coleman and Connolly before midfielder Connollyhit the final score of the game from play. The final score read 1.10 to 0.10.Joyous scenes followed as Captain Cian O’Dowd addressed the large support andthanked managers Eamon Gorman and Colin Connolly for their commitmentthroughout the year.

Once againwell done to all involved with this magnificent achievement. This is furtherproof of all the good work being done at underage level in the club and istestament to all the coaches who give so much to the club. Here’s hoping formany more successes to follow.
