County Convention

November 8, 2018

Congratulations to Gerard Lane who was elected as Public Relations Officer of the Cork County GAA Board at the Annual Convention last Saturday night. This is a huge honour for Gerard but one which he richly deserves. It’s a first for the Bride Rovers club also as we have never previously had a club member elected as an officer of the County Board. Gerard played with the club at juvenile, minor and adult level. His skills as an administrator soon came to the fore. He game years of service to the East Cork Divisional Juvenile Board. He then moved to the Junior Board in East Cork and was elected vice-chairman in 1996. On December 3rd 1997 the East Cork Board Convention was held in Bartlemy Hall and at this meeting Gerard was elected as Chairman of the East Cork Board. The only previous Bride Rovers member who’d held the chairmanship was Tom Barry N.T. – the Master, in the late 1940’s and early 50’s. Gerard served as Imokilly Chairman for ten years. He made a profound effect on the running of the GAA in East Cork. He was very involved in promoting Scór en East Cork and at county level. Last year he stepped down from the chairmanship of the Imokilly Board after a decade of service. He has continued to be involved with the club and served on the Club Executive last year. He remains a committed and loyal Bride Rovers member – the votes for the Cork PRO were counted on Friday night and Gerard knew he had won but on Saturday morning he was in the pitch helping with the re-sodding of the goalmouths. At the present time being PRO of the Cork County Board is an onerous task but Gerard will fulfil his duties in an efficient and capable manner. Sincerest congratulations from all in the club. In the vote for the County Board offficership, Gerard got overwhelming support from the clubs of the county which reflects the high standing in which he is held in the county.
