U17 League South Creggs 19 Dunmore 23
Creggs U17’s lost their first league match of this campaign at home to Dunmore on Friday night under lights in Creggs.
Creggs began the game very well and took an early lead when a good cross field kick from Brian Cleary was collected by Evan Concar who scored in the corner to give Creggs a 5-0. Dunmore were living off scraps for the early stages but they managed to score a penalty from in front of the posts when Creggs were offside at the breakdown, leaving the score 5-3.
Creggs went back up the field and gained good territory through good work From Eoghan Farrell, Mark Kearney , Tom Oates and Dylan Keavney and when they moved the ball wide Ryan Horan took and excellent line to beat the defence to score in the corner which was converted by Brian Cleary, leaving the score 12-3 after 20 minutes.
Dunmore then started to gain territory in the final 10 minutes of the first half and got their reward when they touched 5 minutes before half time which was converted leaving and scored a penalty just before the break to take a 13-12 half time lead.
Creggs again began the second half well and when a chip over the defence was very well gathered by Brian Kelly, Creggs set the ball up and Brian Cleary saw the space where he kicked into for Evan Concar to run onto and gather to score in the corner, which was again converted by Brian Cleary giving Creggs a 19-13 lead.
Dunmore then got the momentum and like the first half the next two score were theirs when they scored a try which they converted and then a very late penalty secured their victory 23-19.

U14 League North: Creggs 17 Westport 7
Creggs Played their second game in the U14 League at home to Westport last Sunday Morning and continued their unbeaten start to their league Campaign with a 17-7 victory . This was a hard fought game throughout and the victory was never certain until the final whistle.
Creggs had the better of the early territory however were finding it hard to control their own ball against a very committed and well drilled Westport front eight. Creggs took the lead after 23 minutes after a number of phases of play and excellent line breaks from Melvin Conteh and Brian Maloney led to James Brandon picking from the back of the ruck and touching down for the opening try which was converted by Ronan Dowd. Creggs continued to have the better of territory and Oisin McConn, Eoghan Coyle and Shane Purcell were doing very well at the breakdown to turn ball over and keep Westport in their own half leaving the half time score 7-0.
Westport started the second half well and took early control of territory using a kicking game to pin Creggs Back in their half and they got their reward when they scored a try 9 minutes in when Thomas Johnson touched down which was converted by Harry Gillivan, leaving the score 7-7. From the kick off Westport failed to control the ball and Creggs went on the attack and some fine play from James Brandon, David O Gorman and Michael Conroy kept the move going and when Danny Arnold was just held short, Aaron Glennon picked the ball from the back of the ruck and dived over from close range giving Creggs a 12-7 lead.
The game was in the balance now and Creggs managed to get back into their opponents territory and when the ball was well set up by the pack the Creggs backs looked to move the ball wide and Niall Cunniffe managed to get outside the defenders to score a very well taken try in the corner to secure the victory.

Youth Update
Our U-13′s were narrowly defeated in Westport 33-29 over the weekend in a very intense affair. They can feel hard done by coming out the wrong end of some contentious decisions as the home side managed to hang on in the end.
Our U-15′s and U-16′s went head to head last Thursday night in a very worthwhile challenge.
The U-15′s had no game last weekend as Corinthians failed to travel for a friendly match on Sunday. Our U-19′s suffered the same fate as Connemara were due to travel to the Green on Sunday but failed to fulfill the fixture. All U-19′s are requested to attend Senior training this week.

Creggs secured their first winning bonus point of the league campaign when an unanswered 36 points wiped out the home side’s early lead. Creggs haul included five tries, two in the first half from right wing Sean Quinn and three in the second from Barry Egan, Conor Brandon and Ray Cassidy. The remaining points came from the boot of out half Noel Flynn, four conversions and penalty. Creggs began well and an early attack should have yielded dividends but handling errors undid the good work and the strong Ballinrobe pack gradually wrestled control of the game, chalking up a ten point lead by half time from first a converted try and then a penalty. Creggs reduced the deficit when Quinn crossed to his opposite wing to finish off a series of rolling mauls with a try in the left corner. Quinn added his second shortly afterwards, interlinking with centre Bernard Kilcommons along the right touchline for the best score of the game. 12-10 ahead at half time Creggs who had played with the elements in the first half now faced the prospect of defending their narrow lead for the second. This was precisely the situation early in the second half with Creggs pinned on their goal line for the first 10 minutes, Ballinrobe however unable to build on their early score. The gods then smiled on Creggs with the wind abating to little more than a puff for the remainder of the game and firstly a Flynn penalty, followed by a converted Barry Egan try when the centre charged down a kick under the Ballinrobe posts ended the game as a contest. The only remaining question was answered when left winger Conor Brandon, making a welcome return from a long injury lay off, cut through diagonally in support to score under the posts and second row Ray Cassidy cantered home for his side’s fifth try to close out the match. Creggs were boosted by the return of Joe Heavey to the front five but on the downside scrum half Enda Gavin was carried off early in the second half with an ankle injury which may see him sidelined for a couple of weeks. This Sunday Creggs are away to Corrib who improved their league placing with a surprise win against Ballinasloe at the weekend, kick off in Headford 2.30 pm.
