Crosshaven u12s made it six wins in a row in Cork schoolboy's league Division 2 after a hard fought away win in Castleview on Wednesday evening. Crosser were lucky to go in to half time at nil all with the defence of Jim, Eamonn and Billy required to answer some stern questions from a lively home attack. Goalkeeper Oisin came to his team mate's rescue more than once as Crosshaven over elaborated in the opposition half, failed to take account of the strong wind advantage and were being constantly pressured by the home side. A great move involving Luka and Rhys nearly stole a lead, but were denied by a great save from the Castleview keeper and the home side were definitely unhappy with level terms at half time.
All changed in the second half. Rory and Fionn slipped into gear in midfield and tackled like tigers before moving the ball forward at peace. The front three were always going to score once good ball came their way and they worked better and smarter as a unit into the wind. The goals came thick and fast for Rhys, Fionn, Rory and Eamonn, with three assists from Shay. Defence was also well on top with the arrival of Leo helping stem the Castleview threat. Rian came on to release Oisin outfield as the energy levels dropped in the tough windy conditions and hostile away atmosphere. A cameo role up front for Fionn O'Donovan meant that we had three goalkeepers on the pitch at the finish. Despite a late well taken consolation goal, the result was a fair one in the end. Crosshaven 4_1 winners now move clear of the field at the top of the division at the half way point of the season.
