KERRY MINOR HURLERS:
Meath, Roscommon, Westmeath and Kildare progressed to the last four of the ESB All-Ireland minor ‘B’ hurling championship following victories on Saturday 7th August .
Meath walloped Mayo by 628 to 02 at Pairc Tailteann, Roscommon fended off a late rally from beaten Ulster finalists Armagh to win by 215 to 113. The meeting of Westmeath and Wicklow in Arklow was another painfully one-sided affair which ended in a 726 to 07 victory for the visitors.
The thrilling game of the day was in Newbridge where Kildare knocked out reigning champions Kerry with a 224 to 417 victory after extra-time. Goals from Daniel Casey and Shane Dunne gave Kerry an early lead before Kildare hit 15 without reply to lead by 211 to 26 at the interval.
The Kingdom battled back in the second half to force extra-time and looked set for victory when Padraig Boyle’s goal put them ahead in the additional period. But four unanswered points, including the winner from a Conor Kenny ‘65, handed the Lilywhites the spoils, and the Kerry minor hurlers bid to retain the All-Ireland B title came to an end. The Crotta hurling was well represented on the Kerry team at centre field by Sean Weir who scored a point.
