The Crotta/ Lixnaw minor Hurlers had a convincing 4-12 to 1-10 win over Causeway in the final of the county minor hurling league Div 1 in Abbeydorney on Monday night 26th July. Causeway opened their account with a goal after three minutes but points from Sean Weir, Tommy Allen and Ricky Heffernan quickly settled Lixnaw/Crotta who often struggled in the first half against an eager Causeway team that were minus the unfortunate Murish Delaney. Lixnaw/Crotta began to grow in confidence and goals from Aidan O’Sullivan, Darragh McAuliffe and Conor O’Brien helped them to a 3-5 to 1-6 half time win. Lixnaw/Crotta had the breeze at their backs for the second half but Causeway were first of the mark with a point. Ricky Heffernan quickly replied with a point to help Lixnaw/Crotta regain their composure. In fairness Causeway were always able to pose a threat keeping the Lixnaw/Crotta defence on their toes where Tom McElligott, Liam Power, Brendan Brosnan and Tom Quille stood out. Man of the match Tommy Allen opened a seven point gap when he smashed home a great goal ten minutes from the end. Lixnaw/Crotta showed the more hunger from here on in turning the screw with scores from Tommy Allen Brendan Brosnan and Darragh McAuliffe. Referee John Ross blew for full time much to the delight of the large number of Lixnaw/Crotta supporters. It might not have been a classic but mission accomplished at the same time.
This team was captained by Sean Weir, Crotta, who was an excellent team captain during this competition.
