Eddie Forde is a name synonymous with Clonmore GFC after a lifetime of service to club and county. An accomplished hurler, Eddie played in two county finals in the fifties with his brother Seamus, and also hurled for the county. Eddie's love of hurling came from his father who was from Tipperary and was a Garda stationed in Hacketstown.

In 1977, realising the need for a Youth Officer in the club, Clonmore GFC made an inspired appointment in the straight-talking Eddie and he was quickly accepted by the youth of the area. As Secretary of the newly formed Juvenile club for ten years, Eddie transformed Clonmore's underage structure into one of the most successful in the county and laid the foundations for many good years for the club.

Eddie moved up to Chairman of Clonmore's adult club from 1991 to 1997, and under his guidance the club enjoyed a golden era, winning Minor, Under 21, Junior and Intermediate Championships. One of Eddie's lasting legacies is the very successful Club Lotto which is still going strong and has enabled the club develop it's facilities into one of the best in the county. Eddie has also acted as MC at our Annual Awards ceremonies for many years and always enhanced the occasion with his professional approach and his carefully chosen words.

At county level, Eddie served as Treasurer and Vice Chairman of Bord na nOg and Chairman of the GAA Publications Committee.

Eddie won the Setanta Award in Carlow Sports Awards in 1980 and was again honoured with an Award for Outstanding Service to Carlow GAA in 1990.

Still actively involved on the Committee and currently President of the club, there could be no more deserving winner of this Award. Congratulations to Eddie on his well earned elevation into the Clonmore GFC Hall of Fame. December 2012.
