Clonmore GFC is sad to report the death in his native Bailieborough, Co Cavan, of Tom O'Reilly who was a member of the great Clonmore team that won the Carlow Senior Football Championship in 1955. We would like to extend deepest sympathy to Tom's wife Catherine, his brother Fr. Bernard, and his family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Tom played at left corner forward on that team, with Bernard at midfield, and he scored a vital point in the final to help the club win its first ever Senior Championship. By the time the club won the Championship again in 1956, both brothers had left the area – Tom had finished serving his time in Duffy's of Hacketstown and returned to run the family business in Bailieborough while Bernard had joined the priesthood.
The O'Reilly brothers are still fondly remembered in the area as two of the outstanding players on that iconic team which made history and brought glory to the club in 1955.

Tom O'Reilly (Smokie), Institute Road and late of The Square, Main Street, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, died 23rd May after a long illness bourne with courage and patience. Beloved husband and best friend to Catherine, daughter Maura, sons Bernard, Thomas, Tony and their partners and cherished grandchildren Ethan and Ellie, his brothers Fr Bernard, Fr Vincent and Fr Donal, sisters Mary and Anne, brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace Reposing at his residence from 2pm today, Tuesday, until 9pm. Removal tomorrow, Wednesday morning, to arrive at St. Anne's Church, Bailieborough for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St. Anne's Cemetery, Bailieborough. No flowers please. Donations in lieu if desired to Palliative Care c/o Clarke’s Funeral Home, Bailieborough.
