Dinner Dance

This years Neale GAA club dinner dance event was held in the McWilliam Park Hotel Claremorris. A large attendance were treated to a great night. MC on the night was club Chairman Ray McHugh. Special guests were John O’Mahony Mayo senior football manager and Geraldine Carey Presient of the Ladies Connaught Council. John O’Mahony commented on the great success the club has had at underage level this year and extended his best wishes to Junior team in the coming year. He also thankes the club for the use of its playing facilities throughout the past year. Geraldine Carey congraulated the Indermediate ladies on their huge successes this year and wished the all the best in the coming year at senior level. A minutes silence was observed on the night in memory of the late Frank Lydon RIP well known club member and local Businessman.

Jack Cowboy Holian Cross, was this years recipient of the Hall of Fame award. He played for the club in the 1950s and 1960s and has the honour of holding the record of being the joint top scored in a south final (3-2) a feat he holds with the current manager Pat McGrath (1-8). Jack played with players like Wattie Moran and John McGrath. The highlight of his playing career was winning back to back O’Mara cups. Brid Ryan(nee Morrin) The Neale recieved the Ladies Hall of Fame. Brid played on the very first Ladies team set up in 1981 by Fr. Brendan Kavanagh RIP, Mamie McGrath and Nancy Varley. She played Intercounty Football for Mayo from 1981, her career peaked in 1987 when she played in the All Ireland Final beating Wexford 4-10 to 4-7, of which she scored 0-4 points.

A large number of special recognition awards were also presented. Richard O’Halloran and Tom Morrin both were a part of the Mayo over 40s team that won the all Ireland in 2007. Pat McGrath past club chairman 2005-2007. Richard O’Halloran past club secretary 2002-2008. Paddy Mylotte past Ladies chairman 2001-2008. Miriam Walsh past Ladies secretary 2000-2007. John Hopkins and James Waldron were commended on their hard work as Chairmen of both the Hurling and Football County Boards respectively.  Kevin O’Halloran and Jarlath O’Connor were awarded Club persons of the year awards in recognition of their continued hard work on behalf of the club.
