Offaly Senior Football Championship Round 2.
Rhode 0–10 Ballycumber 0–9.
Normally to lose narrowly to Rhode would be an achievement. But to lose, having played so well , is very disappointing.
From the throw in Ballycumber contested every ball as if their lives depended on it and even playing against the wind, were full value for their 0–3 to 0–1 lead after 10minutes. Failure to score for the next 15 minutes was costly, as Rhode drew level and went ahead on half time 0–5 to 0–4. Rory Guinan, who scored all but two of our points [Colm Quinn 0–1 and Adrian Kelly0–1] scored a point from play and from a free in the first two minutes of the second half to restore the lead. Another barren spell followed until the 20th minute when Rory kicked three more points in the 20th, 26th and 27th minute. But Rhode had edged in front by one point and Ballycumber could not get another point. Team. Ballycumber 1–7 Ferbane 0–3.
This was a very poor match played in Ballycumber on tuesday evening. A half time score of 0–3 to 0–2 tells it’s own story. Ballycumber played better in the second half and a goal from Lorcan Halligan stretched the lead and the visitors were restricted to just one point from a free. We now travel to Rhode on Monday for our last group match and a win there should see us in the semi final.Team.
