This was a typical hard fought game with the result in the balance right up to the end. Peter Dunne gave Ballycumber the perfect start with a goal after a brilliant 40 metre pass from Colm Quinn, but they failed to add to the scoreboard until close to half time with a pointed free by Colm.Meanwhile Gracefield had scored five points. Trailing 2–5 to 0–3 after 20 minutes Ballycumber were dealt a hammer blow when a player was very harshly sent off.
