Div 3 semi final

November 7, 2018

DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEMI FINAL.
EDENDERRY 2—10 BALLYCUMBER 1—12.
This was a game that had everything that is good about Gaelic Football, good scores , great defending, high fielding and each team had their periods of dominance and all players gave their all in the eighty plus minutes played under lights in Walsh Island on Tuesday night. Edenderry started in whirlwind fashion and kicked five excellent points, but Adrian Kelly kept Ballycumber in the game with three well worked scores to leave the half time score at 0—5 to 0—3. The start of the second half was the same as the first with Edenderry scoring two goals in as many minutes, then Ballycumber took over and points from Simon Casey, Adrian, Peter Dunne, Simon again, Paul Kelly, Chris McDonald, Simon and Peter drew the game at 2—5 to 0-11. Dessie Daly kicked Ballycumber into the lead with a few minutes left but Edenderry fought back to level at the end. The teams faced into two periods of 10 minutes each and Peter Dunne scored a great goal early on, but gradually Edenderry with many senior players on board, clawed their way back into the game with four points. Ballycumber had a few opportunities to level again, but tired legs and bodies were unable to do it. The need to play important games like this one under lights in mid week has to be questioned. Many players are now studying and working away from home and having made huge efforts to get to the game on time without food, they eventually left the venue after 10 oclock to made their way back to Galway, Dublin etc. Not good enough for the Associations greatest asset.
