Under 14
Feile nanGael 2011
What a busy weekend for our under 14 team. Theytravelled to Galway on Friday night intorrential weather and played their host team Castlegar. Unfortunately thingsdidn’t go our way that night and lost on a score line of 4-5 to 2-5.
That didn’t deter our lads however and put up atremendous performance against Turloughmore on Saturday morning inTurloughmore. The score for that match was 2-8 to 2-2 but does not reflectthe actual performance of the game with Turloughmore only scoring their 2 goalsone after the other with a minute to go. Drom were still in with a shot ofqualifying for the semi final. However, it all depended on the outcome ofCastlegar and Turloughmore. Due to Castlegar winning that game it put us out ofthe running. The boys still had one more game against Taghmon Camross. TheWexford team needed to win in order to go to playoff against Castlegar todecide who was to qualify. In the first half, Taghmon had run a tally of1-7 to 2 points with a storm on their backs. In the second half, while Drom had the hurlers, Taghmon were physically bigger and strongerand even though we held Taghmon from scoring our lads found it difficult to getscores past their 6 foot defence and as a result Taghmon came out on topwith a score of 1-7 to 5 points. The boys walked off the pitch with theirheads held high to a round of applause from the crowds that had travelled up tosupport as well as those from the other clubs. Outsiders were astounded bythe talent of our boys and the club is very proud of them. They were a creditto the club, their parents and to Tipperary.Well done boys. The Juvenile Club would also like to thank all those whosupported both financially and also who travelled up to Galway. Itmeant a lot to the lads as well as the mentors and officers of the club. Thanks again.
Taghmon went on to beat Castlegar in the playoff. They were then beaten well by eventual winners O’Loughlin Gaels in the semifinal. The club would like to thank Castlegar for hosting us as they were notfound wanting in any aspect and ensured that we enjoyed our stay for theweekend.
No rest for the wicked however, as the14s begin their Hurling Championship campaign on Thursday 30th Juneagainst Boherlahan in Boherlahan at 7:30 pm.
