Dromard win Senior County final 2007

November 7, 2018

For the second time in three years and third time in eight years we have successfully lifted the Sean Connolly senior championship title amid jubilant scenes at the expense of our near neighbours Colmcille on a scoreline of 1 – 08 to 2 – 04. This was a remarkable victory when you consider the most difficult year we have experienced both on and off the field, the loss of our great friend and clubman TP in the early part of the year and the serious injuries sustained by Cathal Conefrey and Diarmuid Masterson, indeed great credit is due to both Cathal and Diarmuid for coming back from injury so quickly to play a major part in this success. After a fairly even first half we trailed by one point at half time even though we conceded two very soft goals, however we dug deep into our reserves in the second half to take the lead which we subsequently did not relinquish despite huge pressure from Colmcille towards the end of the game. Once again this was a great team performance with Pauric Jones, Cathal Conefrey, David Pettit, Donie Conefrey, Enda McIntyre Donal Sheridan and man of the match Frankie Magee very much to the fore. To Colmcille we say well done and thanks for a fine sporting game and we are sure they will return in the very near future. . We returned to our Club house on Sunday evening to a huge reception and home coming which was enjoyed by all and later the celebrations continued in the Breffni Arms Arva where our staunch supporter and sponsor  Eamon Gray greeted all. To the team management of Sean Hagan and Brian Reilly we say congratulations and thank you, it is great to see home grown management coming to the fore with their own club. We also say well done and thank you to the hard working backroom team of Con Mcloughlin, Sean Conefrey, Pat Jones, Noel Maguire and Peter McCusker and also Marion and the ladies for the after match/training refreshments. Also a big thanks to the main club officers Joe Murphy, Gerry MCabe and Michael Masterson and all others who contributed to making this championship such a success. And finally a big thank you to our main sponsor for the past number of years, Shire Developments. Well done to one and all. Congratulations to our neighbouring club St. Vincent’s on their fine win in the Minor Championship final against Northern Gaels.
