Dublin Ladies Reach All Ireland Final

November 8, 2018

DUBLIN 1-8 LAOIS 0-9

A Lyndsey Davey goal seven minutes from time inspired Dublin to victory in Saturday’s TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC semi-final at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow.

Laois, despite having Mags McEvoy in the sin-bin, had opened up a 0-8 to 0-5 lead entering the final ten minutes and the Jackies chances of reaching the All-Ireland decider looked an outside bet but a fine point from Bernie Finlay kick-started their surge for victory.

In the 53rd minute Gemma Fay breached the Laois cover and handpassed inside to Davey who showed her soccer skills to finish to the net and catapult the Jackies into a 1-6 to 0-8 lead.

Laois did get level with five minutes remaining courtesy but two Sinead Aherne points (including one free) saw Dublin book the spot in the final against the winners of Kerry and Tyrone.

Playing against the wind in the opening half the Jackies found scores had to come by and trailed 0-4 to 0-2 at the interval.
