"Dundalk Stood Out" - O'Neill

November 8, 2018

Shane O’Neill says that Dundalk “stood out” from the other offers he had, after he penned a one-year deal at Oriel Park on Sunday afternoon.

The 23-year-old forward, who previously played for Saint Joseph’s Boys and Cherry Orchard, has arrived from Bray Wanderers along with Chris Shields, having also made his Seagulls debut in 2008.

And, like Shields, he felt the time was right for a change of scenery.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Shane told dundalkfc.com.

“As soon as Seán got on to me and was interested in me, I knew myself that I’d like to come here. I think I need a change, and I’m very happy now that I’ve signed.

“There was one or two offers on the table from other clubs, but this one stood out. As I say, I’m more than happy to join Dundalk.

“I’m from Bray so it was difficult to leave, but this is a move I feel I needed for my career to push on. Bray have been great to me, but I felt it was time to move on.”
