Edenderry and Ferbane/Belmont to contest Minor Football Final

Their opponents in the final will be Edenderry who possibly surprisedsome people other than themselves of course with a hard fought 2 point win over St Vincents in O Connor Park on Saturday evening also.  This game was played with high intensity, and St Vincents for first to score with a point from Brian Norris.  Edenderry replied with 2 points from Sean Moriarty and Sean Doyle befor Norris bgot his second to bring the sides level. Stephen Connolly pointed St Vincents third score, but that was cancelled out by Odhran Lawton’s fine effort in the 14th minute.  Brian Norris again for St Vincents added a 4th point but Peter O neill brought the sides level for a fourth time in the 20th minute.  This is where the wind advantage came into effect for Edenderry.  Odhran Lawton put Edenderry a point up, and this was followed with a great goal from Sean Doyle.Points from O Neill and Moriarty again gave Edenderry a 6 point advantage at the break

Eoin Carroll reduced the margin to 5 with a fine point on the restart but this was cancelled out by another 2 points from Odhran Lawton.  St Vincents need a goal to get back into the game and they got it through Sean Graham in the 10th minute of the second half followed by a 2nd point from Carroll to reduce the margin to 3 points.  It looked like St Vincents were now going to take control but Ednderry kept their nerve and matched St Vincents with points to run out 1-12 to 1-10 winners.  There was a minutes silence observed before the game to mark respect for Peter Farrell of Edenderry who died tragically during the week.

Offaly GAA congratulate both Ferbane /Belmont and Edenderry on reaching this year’s final and wish them both well with their preparations.  The Minor Football Final is due to take place in O Connor Park before the Senior Final if possible on Sunday October 9th.
