Last Saturday Edenderry under 8 and under 10 footballers travelled to Rhode to take part in a brilliantly organised football blitz by the host club. There were eight teams in under 8 section including Ballinamere/Durrow, Edenderry, Gracefield, Kilcormac/Killoughey, Na Fianna, St Broughan’s,
The under 8’s opened with a good win over Kilcormac/Killoughey, this was followed with a narrow win over Na Fianna in what was a great game of football. And their last game was against
The under 10’s played the same side’s as the under 8’s in their group. The first match ended in defeat for Edenderry when they were beaten by Kilcormac/Killoughey. But they recovered well to record great wins over Na Fianna and
Edenderry senior footballers retained their Senior status for 2009 after they defeated St Rynagh’s by 1-09 to 0-09 last Saturday in Cappincur. Edenderry needed to win this game by at least two points, after a defeat to Ferbane last week. This game was tied at 9 points apiece with time running out, and it looked like The Reds were heading back to Intermediate, but up stepped veteran forward John ‘Baby’ Mason to score a goal in the dying minutes to save his side, and send St Rynagh’s down to Intermediate.
Edenderry……1-06
Tullamore……6-08
Last Wednesday evening, Edenderry’s under 16 footballers went down heavily at the hands of Tullamore in the County Semi Final in Geashill under lights.
Edenderry went in at the break three goals down on a scoreline of 3-04 to 0-4 with Edenderry’s points coming from Ciaran Hurley (0-3) and Stuart Cullen.
Edenderry made a bright start to the second half when Derek Kelly goaled after a strong run through the heart of the Tullamore defence. But Edenderry’s joy was short lived as Tullamore hit them with two goals and two points without reply to go 13 points ahead. Stuart Cullen then scored a point before Tullamore hit another goal and two points. Shane Delaney then finished off the scoring in this game with a very good point.
This was a most disappointing performance from a team, who have plenty of ability, but didn’t perform on the night. The club would like to thank Gabriel Gorman, Jack Doyle and Alan Ennis for all their hard work with this team for the past year.
