The Edenderry GAA Golf Society (Captain Johnny Brady) held their first outing of the year at the beautiful Rathcore Golf Club on Saturday May 1st. A huge turnout of over 30 players graced the course and Johnny welcomed each and everyone on the day before taking to the 1st tee. The early pace was set by the Farrell brothers, Declan scoring a very impressive 35 points while Seanie returned a marvellous 38 points which really put it up to the big hitters. After an early rain shower dampened proceedings slightly we were off and running. The course proved to be a great challenge on the day for all and brave effort by Derek Jones scoring 37 points just fell short and the Chairman was looking good to take the honours. However the last group out contained the captain himself and Johnny scorched the course and blitzed the competition with a marvellous 42 points, finishing with an brilliant eagle on the final hole, well done Johnny. It was also great to see some of our more senior members scoring well and proving that there’s life in the old dog yet Johnny’s father Mickey won the Back Nine prize with a wonderful 18 points, while Gay Grehan won the front nine with 22 points.
