Edenderry Ladies GAA

November 8, 2018

Edenderry Senior Ladies clinched their championship final spot with a hard fought win over Shamrocks played in Croghan on Sunday morning last. The reds produced a great second half performance to run out winners on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-7.
Kym Furey opened the scoring with a well taken point followed by a pointed free. Shamrocks began to dominate possession kicking some fine scores and found the back of the Edenderry net and at half-time the reds were trailing by five points 1-5 to 0-3.
After some positional changes in the forward line, Edenderry began the second period with much more determination in their play. Sinead Taylor kicked a fine point and the tireless midfielder Orla Cullen hit the back of the Shamrocks net. Now we certainly had a game on. Elisha Hunston kicked a fine point from the wing and scored her second point of the game from a free to give Edenderry the lead. Orla Kelly who was now operating very effectively on the half forward line cut through the Shamrocks defence and passed to Kym Furey who blasted to the net. Shamrocks then kicked a good point and the Edenderry defence became under pressure as Shamrocks went in search of an equalising goal. Shamrocks scored a long range point to leave two points between the sides. The reds though were not to be denied and the defence led by Sandra Blong, Nuala Redican and Aisling O’Connor stood firm sweeping up attack after attack. Sinead Taylor finished the scoring with a point from an acute angle.
Despite not firing on all cylinders in the first half, Edenderry produced a great second half team performance with great contributions from all players. They now look forward to a County Final meeting with neighbours and reigning champions Rhode on Sunday next in O’Connor Park, Tullamore at 1.15pm. The club wishes to extend the best of luck to all the team panel and team management and hope that our supporters will come out in force to cheer the ladies on.
