ELPHIN GAA CLUB NOTES 12TH SEPTEMBER 2010:
SENIOR:
Well done to our Senior team who qualified for the County Senior Final for the first time since 1986 after a tense one point win over Castlerea St. Kevin`s in Hyde Park on Sunday.
The first half was a tight affair with not many scoring chances for either team. Ger Heneghan and Fintan Cregg traded scores from frees to leave the half time score Elphin 0-03 Castlerea 0-04 with Castlerea having played with the breeze.
The second half was a bit more open. The critical score came after about ten minutes of the half. Frankie Cregg was brought down in the square, resulting in a penalty, after a good move involving Paddy O`Connor and Paul Kelleher. O`Connor took the spot kick and made no mistake crashing the ball to the net. This put Elphin ahead and further points from Fintan Cregg stretched the lead to four before the inevitable comeback from last year`s county champions. Castlerea chipped away at the lead and Elphin can thank Ronnie Collins for pulling off a super point blank save to keep them ahead. Elphin held on after a great all round team effort and will now face St. Brigid`s in the county final on 26th September. Final score Elphin 1-07 Castlerea St. Kevin`s 0-09.

Our U12`s were beaten by St. Faithleach`s in the Division 2 Championship in Ballyleague on Sunday. They have now won 2 and lost 2 games in their division.
