Elphin Junior team put in a determined effort but wasultimately beaten by a stronger Michael Glavey’s first team in the Tansey Cuplast Saturday evening in Ballinlough.
Again there was an encouraging turnout of players availablefor selection.
Elphin started in determined fashion and took the game toGlavey’s in what was to prove a tough but fair encounter. However, scores fromSeanie O’Beirne and Gerry Cregg were all they had to show for their first half effortswhile in the same period, the hosts had knocked over six points and sent asmany more wide.
Michael Glavey’s superior strength at midfield was to provedecisive in the second half. Elphin battled bravely but Glavey’s dominance inthis area combined with a fortunate goal early in the second half was too muchto overcome.
Further Elphin scores from Gerry Cregg and Michael Glancy,who had an industrious game on his return to Junior League action, weren’tenough and Glavey’s ran out deserving winners. Elphin know they have a lot ofwork to do if they are to reverse this result when the sides meet again inChampionship action in mid July.

The final push is on to make this Sunday’s indoor market in the Elphin Hall, ahuge success. Leadingup to Sunday entry sheets for a prize draw are on sale throughout the town fora hamper valued at €200. The hamper is on display in Benedict Morris’ butchershop on Main.st.
Therewill be a wide range of outside traders at the market as well as our own homebaking, books and toys stalls. Anyone attending can also enter various drawsand competitions to win a signed Elphin replica jersey and a football signed bythe Roscommon senior football team.
