Elphin progressed to the quarter final of theJunior A Championshipwith a comprehensivevictory over a young Strokestown side on a warm bank holiday Monday afternoon.
Elphin playedexcellent football throughout the first half and had established a commandinghalf time lead. This was due to good team play allover the pitch, highquality finishing by the forward line and a good scorefrom centre half back Alan Beirne. Strokestown’sonly response was a well taken soccer style goal.
The second half continued in the same vein with Elphin continuing to press home their superiority. Goalsfrom Martin McCaffrey,Martin Cregg, and RonanBeirne and furtherscores from a number of players saw Elphin run out comfortable winners.
Strokestown to their credit nevergave up and theirefforts were rewarded when they scored another goal thanks to some quickthinking from two of their more experienced players.
Elphin will be satisfiedwith this result but know that tougher tests lieahead if they are to progress further.
